Donte Moncrief to Sign Autographs Before Celebrity Softball Challenge

The Indianapolis Indians and Victory Field have announced an autograph session with Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief before the 9th Annual Caroline Symmes Memorial Celebrity Softball Challenge on Thursday, June 15, 2017. The autograph signing starts when gates open at 5:30 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last month the Indians announced former Indianapolis Colts Robert Mathis and Pat McAfee, plus current Colt T.Y. Hilton and Indiana Pacer Paul George, are already slated to play in the game, with more Indy sports stars and media personalities to be announced. The Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers are presenting sponsors of the event, with proceeds benefiting Indiana Children’s Wish Fund.

Fans attending the Donte Moncrief autograph signing should arrive at Victory Field before the gates open at 5:30 p.m. The session is available to the first 200 people in line. Fans are limited to one autograph per person. No posed pictures will be allowed due to time constraints, but fans can take pictures during the signing.

Indiana Children’s Wish Fund grants wishes to Indiana children, ages 3 -18, who suffer from life-threatening illnesses. The Celebrity Softball Challenge is played in memory of Caroline Symmes, a Wish child who was involved with the inaugural event and passed away in December 2009.

Tickets are $10, but children 3 and under get in free. To purchase tickets, call the Victory Field Box Office at 317-269-3545 or visit IndyIndians.com/celebritysoftball. For more information about the Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, go to indywish.org.

Celebrity Softball Challenge Set for June 15 at Victory Field

Indy’s biggest sports stars take the field for a cause on Thursday, June 15, 2017, for the 9th Annual Caroline Symmes Memorial Celebrity Softball Challenge presented by the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers. The event benefits Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, with Indy celebrities taking over downtown Victory Field and raising funds to help Indiana Children’s Wish Fund grant wishes to Indiana children, ages 3 -18, who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

Headlining this year’s Celebrity Softball Challenge are Indianapolis Colts legends Robert Mathis and Pat McAfee, plus current Colts All-Pro wide receiver TY Hilton and Indiana Pacers All-Star swingman Paul George. Pacers center Myles Turner will also be in the line-up, with more Indy sports stars still to be announced.

The Celebrity Softball Challenge is in memory of Caroline Symmes, a Wish child who was involved with the inaugural event and passed away in December 2009.

“This is an amazing event, bringing together celebrities, Wish children and our community,” says L.G. Edwards, board president of Indiana Children’s Wish Fund. “Fans have the opportunity to see their favorite celebrities up close, get autographs and enjoy a fun time with their families.”

Tickets are $10 and go on sale to the public beginning May 1. Children 3 and under get in free. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the Victory Field gates open at 5:30 p.m.

“The Indians and Victory Field are thrilled to once again host this year’s Celebrity Softball Challenge,” said Randy Lewandowski, president and GM of the Indianapolis Indians. “It’s fun for fans to watch their hometown sports heroes play a game that takes them out of their natural element, while they also raise funds to grant wishes to deserving Wish children and their families.”

To purchase tickets, call the Victory Field Box Office 317-269-3545 or visit IndyIndians.com/celebritysoftball. For more information about the Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, go to indywish.org.

TRIBE NOTES

DONE WITH THE DROUGHT: The Tribe’s scoreless-innings streak at the dish was snapped at 23 frames after a two-out rally in the first inning. Eric Wood tripled with two down and scored on a base knock by Elias Diaz to right-center, ending the drought.

A DIFFERENT DROUGHT: The Indians are currently riding a five-game skid, their longest since a six-game losing streak from Aug. 20-25, 2016. Dating back to Aug. 17, 2016, the Tribe are 9-17 overall, including an 0-6 record vs. Columbus at Victory Field.

THREE BASES, NOT IN ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD: Not known for his speed on the basepaths, Jason Rogers logged his fourth triple since the beginning of 2016 with one to open the fifth inning in yesterday’s game. His last triple prior to yesterday came on June 1, 2016 vs. Rochester at Victory Field.

TRIBE NOTES

NGOEPE SWINGIN’ IT: Gift Ngoepe has been the one constant producer for the Indians so far this season. After batting .429 (18-for-42) for the Pirates in spring training, he’s carried his success into the regular season for Indianapolis, batting .421 (8-for-19) through five games. He’s racked up four extra-base hits while continuing his stellar work defensively, primarily at shortstop.

APRIL 10 VS. COLUMBUS: After falling 1-0 in 11 innings last night, the Tribe have now been shut out by the Clippers on April 10 over each of the last three seasons. Last year, Mike Clevinger outdueled Tyler Glasnow and the Indians in a 1-0 shutout at Huntington Park. In 2015, Danny Salazar bested Adrian Sampson and the Tribe in a 3-0 triumph at Victory Field.

EXTRA-INNING BITS: After going 7-9 in extra innings in 2016, the Tribe lost their first extra-inning game last night. Since 2005, the Indians own an 83-79 record in extras. In 2013, Indy posted a 16-7 record in extra innings. Its worst record in extras since ’05 came in 2008 when the team went 1-9.
