Salvation Army Red Kettle Stolen from Plainfield JCPenney

In an already tough fundraising season, The Salvation Army was dealt a heavy blow on Wednesday night when a red kettle filled with cash was stolen from outside of the JCPenney store at 2611 E. Main Street in Plainfield. The kettle and the heavy metal stand to which it was locked both disappeared between 5:15 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. when The Salvation Army arrived to pick up the kettle.

The Salvation Army has filed a report with the Plainfield Police Department, which will be reviewing security footage of the area as part of its investigation. In the meantime, The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Corps is working hard to make the most of the ten remaining days in the organization’s annual red kettle campaign.

Volunteers are still needed to cover many bell-ringing shifts. Lieutenants Josh and Robyn Hubbard, pastors at the Eagle Creek Corps, are asking the public to help them make up for the loss by volunteering to ring at one of the local kettle sites across central Indiana. Volunteers can sign up for 2-hour shifts at over 100 locations by visiting www.RegisterToRing.com. Just one 2-hour shift can raise enough funds to feed a family of four in need for an entire week.

“Yesterday was a low day for us Eagle Creek,” shared Lt. Josh Hubbard, “but we are trying to count our blessings and continue forward in the joy of the season.”

If you have any information that may help the Plainfield Police Department with its investigation, please contact them at 317-839-8700.
