DeWayne Sisk, 34, and Rachel Brickley, 24, Arrested for Suspected Carjacking

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Southwest District officers apprehend suspected carjackers after finding them at a nearby gas station.

June 1, 2017, just after 2:00 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Southwest District were sent to the 200 block of South Warman Avenue on the report of carjacking resulting in injury. Officers quickly arrived and found the victim 26-year-old Shane Gebhart on the front porch of a house bleeding. The victim was suffering from lacerations to his face and was covered in blood.

The victim told officers that the suspect 34-year-old DeWayne Sisk and 24-year-old Rachel Brickley was sitting with him in the alley of 200 South Warman Avenue when suspect DeWayne Sisk starting hitting the victim with the butt of a handgun causing the before mentioned injuries. The victim jumped out of his vehicle and ran to the house where officers found him.

Responding officers broadcast a description of the victim’s vehicle and suspects. IMPD Officer Cook found the vehicle at nearby Marathon gas station in the 3400 block of West Morris Street with a male matching the suspect’s description sitting inside the vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle and verified the vehicle’s license plate. Officers Cook and King also found the female suspect inside the gas station buying a drink. Officers quickly detained both suspects without incident.

After being questioned by detectives both suspects were arrested for robbery and transported by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to the Aressetee Processing Center for processing.

Three Juvenile Males in Custody after Saturday Carjacking

On May 20, 2017, just after 4:30 a.m., IMPD officers were called to the 5200 block of N. Keystone Avenue on a carjacking. The victim stated that he was at the gas station when he was robbed at gunpoint by three young males who took off his with his vehicle.

Just after 5:00 a.m., officers noticed the vehicle which fit the description of the stolen van in the area of E. 40th St. Officers checked the plates through BMV to ensure the vehicle was the one in question. The plate registration returned as the same vehicle which belonged to the victim. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver lead the officers on a vehicle pursuit.

During the course of the pursuit, the tailgate of the van opened and officers were able to see three occupants of the vehicle. The driver continued to evade the officers disregarding traffic signals, police lights, and sirens. The driver lost control of the van and crashed into a parked pickup truck south of 35th and Graceland Avenue. The driver attempted to run but was apprehended by an officer. All three of the males were taken into custody without further incident.

Officers and robbery detectives conducted a show-up of the alleged suspects and received a positive identification from the victim. All three suspects were identified as juvenile males. All three juveniles were arrested and transported to the Marion County Holding at Eskenazi Hospital. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a changing decision.

Steven Ostachuk, 21, and Robert Butler, 25, Arrested for Robbery & Attempted Robbery

Just after 12 p.m. on May 14, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the Kroger Pharmacy located in the 600 block of Twin Aire Dr on reports of an attempted robbery that had just occurred. The suspect had allegedly passed a note to a pharmacist demanding narcotics, before fleeing the scene, empty handed, to a waiting vehicle.

Then, hours later, just after 2 p.m., officers with the IMPD were dispatched the Family Dollar located in the 5200 block of English Ave on reports of a robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers learned the suspect allegedly passed a note demanding money. The suspect, after being given an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, then fled from the business.

IMPD Robbery detectives had responded to both locations and began gathering witness statements as well as potential evidence. Through tried and proven investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify suspects. On May 21, 2017, detectives located one suspect, 21-year-old Steven Ostachuk, getting into a vehicle in the 500 block of S Graham Ave. Detectives followed Ostachuk to the 5800 block of E Greenfield Ave where detectives were able to safely take him into custody without incident. The 2nd suspect, 25-year-old Robert Butler, was located and taken into custody without incident in the 500 block of S Dunson Ct on May 23, 2017.

During the course of the investigation, detectives obtained search warrants for the residences of Butler and Ostachuk. Evidence was located that allegedly linked both suspects to the crimes. Both suspects were interviewed at the IMPD Robbery Offices before being transported to the Arrestee Processing Center on robbery charges. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

This was a thorough investigation conducted by the IMPD Robbery Unit to bring a swift conclusion to two robberies just hours apart. Detectives across the city work countless hours to bring justice and closure to cases just like these. It is a part of their ongoing commitment to the citizens of Indianapolis in helping to make this city a greater place to live, work, and play!

Two juveniles, 16 & 17, apprehended after armed robbery

Just after 8 a.m. on May 24, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the Family Dollar located in the 2100 block of Mitthoefer Rd on reports of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers were given a description of two suspects, one of which was allegedly armed.

Officers, using their knowledge of the area, responded to a likely escape route for the suspects. A K-9 Officer observed males matching the suspect descriptions, walking in the area of 2100 Shoreland Dr. The suspects were apprehended without incident and allegedly had possession of evidence connecting them to the robbery. Given that the suspects were juveniles, their names will not be released, however, they were identified as being a 16-year-old male and 17-year-old male.

Both suspects were later transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for processing. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final charging decision. The quick actions by responding officers and the thorough follow-up investigation conducted by Robbery Detectives further demonstrates their commitment to the City of Indianapolis. Scott Dixon & Dario Franchitti Robbed at Taco Bell, Sponsorship Blown?

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers and robbery detectives, arrest two juveniles after they were believed to be involved in a robbery on city’ northwest side.

On May 21, 2017, just after 9:43 p.m., IMPD officers were called to the 3502 W. 16th Street on a robbery.  The victims (Editor’s note: Scott and Emma Dixon & Dario Franchitti) stated they were waiting in the drive-thru line when they were robbed at gunpoint by two young males.  Officers called for the assistance of Robbery detectives.

When Robbery detectives arrived they began their investigation, the officers viewed the surveillance cameras at the business and were able to observe that prior to the robbery there was a suspicious vehicle on the lot.  The vehicle drove off and the alleged suspects appeared from the same direction, after the robbery the suspects ran toward the same direction of the suspicious vehicle.

Officers on scene of the robbery informed other officers that were in the area of the suspected vehicle description.  Nearly a half hour later officers located the vehicle in question were able to stop the car.   The passenger of the vehicle attempted to flee and was apprehended by a canine.  Officers and robbery detectives conducted a show-up of the alleged suspects and the victim positively identified the passenger.  The driver could not be identified, however, while the detective conducted an interview he admitted to partially being involved and stated where the stolen property could be located.  The two juveniles were arrested one was transported to the Marion County Holding at Eskenazi Hospital and the other was sent to the Juvenile Detention Center.  The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a changing decision.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indy 500 Champions Scott Dixon & Dario Franchitti were robbed at gunpoint around 10 p.m. Sunday night at a Taco Bell near Indianapolis Motor Speedway by two juveniles, ages 14 and 15. The juveniles have been arrested and are in police custody.

Chip Ganassi was quick to chime in.

Theories abound.

Taco Bell was reached for comment but has yet to respond.

 

We will update this story as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, these two juveniles should be spanked by their parents and taught a little respect.

David Lee Burchett, 32, of Cloverdale, Arrested for Armed Robbery

Putnam County – A joint investigation involving Cloverdale Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indiana State Police, has resulted in the arrest of an armed robbery suspect.

Arrested: David Lee Burchett, age 32, of Cloverdale, IN.

Charges: (1) Count of Robbery; (1) Count of Pointing a Firearm; (1) Count of Intimidation

Incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail

On Thursday, April 6, 2017, at approximately 12:19 a.m., Putnam County 911 received a call from the Casey’s gas station at 355 North Main Street in Cloverdale, reporting an armed robbery. The suspect was a white male 5-08 to 6-00 tall, wearing a black bandanna over his face, black baseball style cap, and dark clothing. The suspect brandished a black revolver style handgun and demanded money and cigarettes, in which he received approximately $300 and approximately 14 cartons of cigarettes. The suspect then fled north from the store. Over the next several minutes, officers from the three agencies searched the area but were not able to locate the man.

Hours later at approximately 8:50 a.m., Putnam County 911 received a domestic battery call from 250 South Lafayette Street, Apartment 1. Officers responded and noticed the domestic battery suspect appeared to match the description of the earlier armed robbery suspect. Officers arrested David L. Burchett for domestic battery and continued their investigation into the armed robbery.

Over the next few days, surveillance footage was reviewed, search warrants on the apartment and Burchett’s vehicle were executed, and several interviews were conducted. All leading to the Putnam County arrest warrant for David L. Burchett.

The Putnam County arrest warrant was issued this morning, and Cloverdale Police Officer David Brown spotted David Burchett around 4:20 this afternoon, operating his vehicle westbound from Cloverdale on State Road 42. A traffic stop was initiated and Burchett was taken into custody without incident by Cloverdale Officer David Brown, Marshal Steve Hibler, and Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden.

The lead investigating officer on this case was Cloverdale Police Officer David Brown. Assisting were Cloverdale Town Marshal Steve Hibler; ISP Putnamville Detectives Sergeant Sam Stearley and Troy Cobb, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of Putnam County Prosecutor Timothy Bookwalter.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
